Cloud Computing is a familiar term these days in the world of information technology. In fact, what is cloud computing?
Cloud computing is the utilization of computer technology to use internet-based product / service. Cloud computing consists of a lot of processing center of data center where smaller devices are arranged in such a way in large numbers to be accessed with Internet technology. These technologies provide services such as software, data access, and storage of data without the user must know the physical location of the service providers as well as how the service works.
According to NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology), the characteristics of a system that can be said to Cloud Computing:
1. Have Resource Pooling: resources such as storage, CPU, memory, network bandwidth, etc. provided by the service providers to meet customer needs and are used jointly by a number of users (multi-tenant).
2. Broad Network Access: available devices to access data to the cloud, such as smart phones, laptops, or tablets.
3. Have Measured Service: monitoring service provided by a service provider that allows the user to monitor the service cloud computing resources, such as bandwidth, capacity, running processes, etc..
4. Rapid Elasticity: service capacity can be increased or decreased at any time easily and freely.
5. Self Service: service user can configure cloud computing services independently without having to interact with the cloud provider.
In cloud computing the cloud provider will "send" the application via the Internet, while the service users will access the service via a web browser (or a special application provided by the cloud provider) in order to connect to the service provider's cloud computing services concerned.
A cloud computing service is divided into three types, namely Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as aService (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). Figure below describes which part is managed by service users (blue color) and which part is managed by service provider (gray color).
A technology certainly has a good side and a bad side. Like most things in life, the benefits come with risks. So it is with cloud computing. Some risks and benefits or cloud computing are:
